The WoW Effect: How the “Wonder Wardrobe” course changed the way I look at capsule wardrobes

Scrolling through my suggested YouTube videos two years ago, I came across Daria Andronescu, Founder of the Wonder Wardrobe course.

My list of suggestions, like my interests, was full of inspirational videos on how to simplify and curate your life for the better.

Over the past 11 years, Daria has worked as an international personal shopper, creating multifunctional seasonal capsule wardrobes that help the environment and her clients worldwide.

After getting her professional experience and education in Milan, she developed her own unique method of building the perfect wardrobe – the Wonder Wardrobe

Fast forward to a few months ago, a familiar name appeared in my mailbox: Daria reached out to me to introduce me to her online video capsule wardrobe course.

Daria Andronescu

While I was familiar with Daria’s content, I was hesitant at first. Although I am on a journey to simplify and curate my life and wardrobe, I could never really picture myself with a 33-item closet consisting of basic white t-shirts and jeans — at least, that’s what I had in mind when I thought about a capsule wardrobe.

Daria’s capsule wardrobe method goes beyond neutral colors or casual shoes and shows you how to create a capsule wardrobe that works for your personal lifestyle needs.

Since I work in fashion, spend most of my time working from my sofa, and often receive clothes as part of my job, I was skeptical if the course would teach me anything I could realistically use and implement in my everyday life.

But as the saying goes, “If you never try, you never know”. I had never taken an online course before and was excited to try it out — and I am glad I did.

Fewer clothes, better style.

Have you ever stood in front of your closet packed to the brim with the same clothes, yet felt anxious, uninspired or like you have nothing to wear?

With Wonder Wardrobe, you will slowly forget about these stressful mornings, struggling to figure out how to style that “one annoying skirt” and experiencing choice fatigue.

In her course, Daria walks you through a journey to turn your wardrobe into a fully interchangeable wonder-wardrobe full of beautiful, endlessly inspiring outfits that suit your own unique style and lifestyle.

Find and evolve your personal style and lifestyle needs; the most flattering colours and cuts to help enhance your natural beauty and create a genuinely personal wardrobe.

Plus, learn how to shop smart, avoid unnecessary impulse buys, reduce waste, and discover how to get the max out of the pieces you already have in your closet — which is the most sustainable way to dress.

Through helpful video lessons, fashion mood boards, templates, AI Outfit Calculators, and fun exercises, you will learn how to build the wonder wardrobe of your dreams.

Not just a capsule wardrobe

What made me appreciate Daria’s approach on the journey to a wonder wardrobe is her perception that a wardrobe is as unique as its owner.

She constantly acknowledges that we each live an extraordinary life with our own unique needs.

Therefore, there is no “one size fits all” solution to achieve an individual wonder wardrobe.

Daria does not talk about the number of items you “need” to build a capsule wardrobe — you can have as many clothes or pairs of shoes as you want.

A holistic, sustainable approach to a starter capsule wardrobe

It is hard to miss the fact that sustainability is one of the core values in Daria’s course. After all, the whole idea behind it is to teach people to maximise their closets with fewer items, most of which can already be found in their closets, and make these last for as long as possible.

Throughout the course, Daria also features ethical fashion brands in different styling examples and provides students with complimentary ethical fashion guides.

Besides that, for every WoW Course taken, Daria plants 25 trees through her partner ‘Eden Reforestation Project’.

To make sure you get the most out of the course, Daria allows you to ask questions and share your thoughts in the comment section of each video or on the Wonder Wardrobe Slack channel, where you can connect with like-minded people who went through or are currently going through the course.

I find the Slack community super inspiring as everyone gets to share their looks, reflections and favourite ethical finds!

My experience & favourite classes

As you might have guessed, my experience with the Wonder Wardrobe course was beyond what I ever expected.

Before starting out the course, in the middle of winter, I felt a bit uninspired by my wardrobe and had a hard time getting creative and putting new outfits together.

Daria’s bubbly vibrant personality, helpful explanations and examples didn’t only lift my mood — it completely blew me away and filled my cup with a surge of inspiration I wasn’t even aware I needed.

Through the Wonder Wardrobe course, I learned so many new things, some of which I wouldn’t have been able to point out myself.

After completing the course, I took steps to curate my closet even further while keeping in mind and implementing the tips and lessons I learned.

The course made me realise I want to experiment more with accessories and colours.

By adding touches of vibrant colours and fun accessories to my closet that allows me to express my style and easily upgrade any look I wear, I was able to boost not only my outfits but my mood— colour does really influence the way you feel!

In the accessories department, I upgraded my closet by adding a pair of sunglasses, colourful scarves and earrings that allow me to personalise my looks even more.

While I enjoyed the Wonder Wardrobe course from start to end, there were two classes that were the most helpful for me were the colour harmony class and the body harmony class, and here’s why:

Colour Harmony Class

Colour theories were not something I had never heard of before. I remember watching them in the past but never fully understood how to implement them and figure out how to train my eye to see the differences between colours, their vibrancy and contrast, and how they affect the way I look.

Throughout the course, I learned to identify the colours that suited me best. I was surprised to find out these weren’t the colours I thought about myself.

I also found out my skin tone is cool, while I always thought it was warm! Moreover, I learned that it isn’t only my skin colour that matters when choosing colours, but the colour of my eyes, hair, skin undertone, skin colour, and the contrast and harmony between them.

In the photo collage below, you can see the pictures I took during the course.

The two photos on the top were taken with colours I figured out worked best for me through the course. The bottom ones were colours I had always gravitated towards but don’t work as well with my natural features.

Body Harmony Class

Many of you have probably heard of the old-fashioned body shape styling tips — from the so-called “ideal” hourglass to apples to pears to triangles; these tips aren’t considering the fact that each body is unique and, just like with capsule wardrobes and colours, no one mould can fit us all.

In the Body Harmony class, I learned a whole new styling theory that considers each individual’s unique body shape, which is already perfect the way it is. In this class, I learned how vertical and horizontal lines influence the way we look; I found out my vertical proportions and learned which designs, tailoring and cuts suit me most.

Another exciting topic Daria covered is shoes: finding the right shoes for my outfits is something I was often struggling with and couldn’t figure out why, and the course helped me figure out how to find the right colour, cut and visual size of shoes to match with each of my outfits.

Daria also covered nine outfit formulas made from different silhouettes, which visually demonstrate how to build harmonious, well-balanced looks.

How to pick outfits and shop

I would highly recommend the course to anyone out there who wants to perfect their own wardrobe with a personal style. It’s the best way to curate the closet of their dreams.

This capsule wardrobe method will show you how to invest in quality clothing but first you will start a capsule wardrobe with just about anything you have in your closet: skinny pants, black pants, jeans, any type of tops, trousers, skirts and shoes.

The Wonder Wardrobe course will show you how to turn all the clothes in your closet into versatile pieces that create personal outfits.

And since you start with what you’ve already worn, you will save money and pause impulse shopping. You will learn how to choose clothing that fits with everything else in your closet.

Final thoughts on the curated wardrobe

The Wonder Wardrobe course goes beyond the simple, basic design of other capsule wardrobes. It will help you find the best looks for your body, personal style and life.

Going through this course made me look at my closet with a whole new perspective and provided me with many life-changing tips and lessons I think of every time I put together an outfit.

I find it easier to dress up in the morning and develop new and creative looks using the clothes I curated, especially for myself.

Daria’s capsule wardrobe examples inspired me to spend more time experimenting with my clothes and coming up with multiple look combinations using just a few clothing items at a time.

I think the course would benefit everyone, from fashion lovers like myself to newbies who haven’t yet had much experience in that department.
