Colibri Vegan Bags: The Vegan Luxury Brand You Need to Know

I’m quite sure that in another universe, I might have been French. My favorite kind of bread is warm, crispy baguette, I live for vegan croissants (with chocolate, please), I wear wool-free berets all winter long and I’m all into simple, natural makeup and “careless” hair. Oh, and I have a serious obsession with skincare, red-lips, perfumes, bags, shoes, (surprising, ha?) and the song Mercy.

So…after convincing you (and mainly myself) that I’m a French girl in heart, it’s time to tell you about one of the most exciting collaborations ever. Two months ago, I started chatting with a lovely woman named Mathilde, the owner of the most amazing vegan, luxury bag company- Colibri Vegan Bags. If this name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because you’ve seen it about 13223 times on my Instagram stories before. I became friends with lovely Mathilde, and the day has arrived to finally spread and share my love for this awesome brand (and the woman behind it) with you all.

What does “Colibri” mean?

Colibri is the French word for hummingbird, and to explain this beautiful name, Mathilde mentions the legend of the Hummingbird:

One day, said the legend, there was a huge forest fire. All the terrified, aghast animals watched the disaster helplessly. Only the little hummingbird was activated, fetching a few drops with its beak to throw them on the fire. After a moment, the armadillo, annoyed by this derisory agitation, said to him: “Hummingbird! Are not you crazy? It is not with these drops of water that you will extinguish the fire!”

And the hummingbird replied, “I know it, but I’m doing my part”.

This legend Mathilde wrote about really spoke to me and inspired me. It perfectly describes what I believe in- we all should act and do things in order to change our world for the better. If we’ll all learn from hummingbirds, this world will be a better place. Birds, in particular, are such a lovely symbol for the beauty of this world, and as you know- my blog’s logo is a bird too. Colibri stands for freedom & compassion for the animals, for the planet and people- just like their name.

Mathilde became vegan a few years back. “One day,” she says, “it was no longer possible for me to continue carrying my bags made from animal skin. But I could not find an alternative that suits me, both aesthetically and ecologically”. That’s why she decided to take a step, just like the hummingbird, and did it by making her dream a reality.

The bag I received is the VESPER Chocolate bag. Mathilde knew about my obsession with chocolate, and together we decided that this color would be perfect for me and my personal style. The bag arrived in a recyclable shipping carton, and inside a lovely dust bag made of organic and fair-trade cotton (YES, Mathilde literally pays attention to all the small details) the beautiful bag was waiting for me! Mathilde explains that not like other brands, the bag doesn’t arrive in a second carton box due to ecological reasons- “we prefer to leave the trees in the forests!” On the dust bag, you can find a sweet French sentence, saying: “I’m the soft nest of the hummingbird, keep me!“

What can I say… I fell in love with this bag. I cannot stop staring at it ever since I got it. The design of it is so elegant, classic and timeless. It’s made out of the softest, highest-quality synthetic leather, that was made in Italy (another fab place) by a company certified “European Ecolabel”. The lining of the bag is super soft and made by the highest quality microfiber available in the world to this date- Alcantara, which is also super expensive and manufactured in Italy by a company certified “carbon neutral” since 2009.

Not only the design is perfect, it’s the most amazing feeling to wear this bag, knowing it was made with so much thought and love. I love everything that this brand stands for and wear this bag with pride. I personally think it’s one of the highest quality vegan bags available in the world today.

Oh, and It’s super practical- its size is perfect for every-day use, and it has 5 pockets and it can be worn both over the shoulder or crossbody, making it very convenient and smart. Since it is a very classic bag with a neutral color, it can be worn day and night. It is an all-year-rounder and can be worn in all seasons without exceptions.

How I styled it- Vesper Bag: Day to Night

Since I love French style so much, I decided to go with French-inspired outfits. I can say that my outfits, in particular, have a very noticeable French-vibe, with minimal accessorize, simple, natural makeup, care-free hair and a very easy-going, effortless overall vibe.

 DAY: The French Next Door

With this outfit I took inspiration from the classic French girl look, keeping the colors neutral and the lips bold. It’s very effortless and chic and stands out for what French girls often try to achieve- the “I didn’t try too hard” effect. I paired my high-waisted culottes with a simple, white polka-dot top that I knotted in the front. For my shoes I chose a simple vintage pair of heels and to add a touch of color and femininity, I added a wine-red bow hair clip. This bag just completes this whole outfit and I cannot get enough wear out of it.

 NIGHT: La vie est une fleur

For my evening look, I chose a tight, body-hugging midi dress in a nice deep-blue color that compliments the bag, with my usual print-of-choice, floral. I added a simple pair of pointy heels, and the only accessory I wore was a simple gold necklace. Oh, and I couldn’t resist holding a sunflower, just for fun…
