Berlin has a lot to offer for us, conscious consumers. From countless vegan restaurants to sustainable fashion and thrift shops, the city offers so much of what we all love. But one thing Berlin is leading at more than any city I’ve ever visited is ethical –and more specifically– vegan fashion. During every Berlin trip I’ve ever had, even just a few weeks ago, there is one store I never skipped, and its name is LOVECO.
Apart from offering ethically and sustainably made fashion, the store is also purely vegan, which is all one could dream! Just think about it: for a vegan fashion nerd like me, which is always so happy to explore and discover, entering LOVECO is like “a kid in a candy store” kind of moment. All the brands I love and talk about all the time under the same roof? Sounds like fun to me!
About LOVECO
Christina, a passionate vegan at heart and fair fashion enthusiast had a dream to educate people about the true cost of fashion towards animals, people, and the environment. In 2014, she founded LOVECO, to prove that fair-fashion is here to stay and that people don’t need to compromise their values or the negative effects on animals, humans, or the environment to be stylish. As stated on LOVECO‘s website, “The brands we’ve selected to work with have great importance to vegan and environmentally friendly production of their clothing. There are always new labels added that also make veganism and sustainability their core themes, and we choose our selection of their best items for our sustainable online fashion shop”. LOVECO’s founder Christina knows all of the brands and their founders personally. She is in regular contact with them; not only about production conditions, but also cuts, materials, and styles. With her years of experience and tasteful, refined fashion sense, she’s curating the LOVECO selection to this day.
100% VEGAN. No Compromises.
There are a lot of fair fashion shops out there, but not so many fully vegan fair fashion shops. To me, as an ethical vegan and a vegan fashion fanatic, these two values go hand in hand, and so these do for LOVECO: Christina recently shared her vegan story on the LOVECO online magazine, saying that she grew up in a farm and started questioning things that happened there as she grew older: “…Sometimes it just takes a while to understand things and question them. Suddenly everything that I knew from the farm made sense: small calves calling for their mother, suckler cows bleating about their calves, animals that were transported away, and transported abroad on trucks for days…That’s how I became vegan”.
With her endless compassion for animals, Christina wanted LOVECO to showcase cruelty-free fashion in its full glory. Apart from that, she’s dedicating her time to educate customers visiting her shops or online by writing information cards and articles about vegan, eco-friendly, innovative materials that do no harm.
With transparency, fairness, and education as leading core values at LOVECO, the team is openly disclosing how they operate their holistically sustainable business. Offering plastic-free shipping and sustainable packaging, using second-hand furniture and renewable energy in stores, and being 100% independent and social are only a few examples of actions LOVECO take and disclose online and in stores. The store is openly posting their pricing model and by that allowing customers to understand the real cost behind each product in their store, which I personally highly appreciate.
What I’m Wearing
Do you know the feeling you get when wearing a power suit? That is certainly what I felt with my LOVECO outfit of choice! I chose this effortless suit from a small UK label I’ve been following and loving for a long while: COSSAC! I was so happy to see their clothes in the LOVECO store as it is pretty hard to spot smaller designers offline 🙂 This set of rust blazer and pants has been on my radar for a while. I love the ‘effortless boss’ vibe it has and the luxurious feel of the Tencel fabric it is made of. To go with this set, I wore my beloved NAE boots, which are also available at LOVECO: they are so comfy and stylish and are my ultimate go-to booties this season. One of my outfit highlights was this stunning, soft black tote bag by Nine To Five.
I think it is probably the softest vegan leather I’ve felt! It has an extra stylish pouch inside that you can use as a casual minimalist clutch, too. I topped it all with a dainty gold hoop necklace by Wid Fawn that I purchased at LOVECO and a golden pair of earrings by People Tree. What do you think? 🙂
To sum it all up, I am so thrilled to work with a store that I’ve been admiring and buying from for a long time, with which I share all my core values.
