Beflamboyant: Vegan, Sustainable, Unisex Sneakers Helping To Plant Trees

There are three items I assume I’ll find if I open your wardrobe: a white t-shirt, a pair of jeans and of course, white sneakers, right? these wardrobe staples effortlessly made their way into our wardrobe, and sneakers, that once were worn exclusively at the gym, seem to worn by everyone, everywhere, for some good reasons: they are effortlessly-stylish and comfortable, office-approved (most of the time) and easy to style. But finding the perfect pair of sleek, stylish, comfortable sneakers that are also vegan and sustainable can be quite a challenge: I’ve tried quite a few of them over the years and I am happy to say that I think my journey has now come to an end.

A Spanish sneakers brand that has been on my radar for a while: they are vegan, sustainable and their sneakers are super stylish, which totally explains their name: Beflamboyant. The brand was founded by a lovely vegan couple, Jorge and Tatiana, both still under 30 and share a huge (com)passion for animals, people, planet and… trainers.

Beflamboyant: Background Story

“As trainers lovers, but also as humans who are worried by the state of our planet, it was a shock for me and Tati when we discovered the huge environmental footprint left by the fashion industry, as well as the vast number of animals that die for fashion”, Jorge said. “we were exposed to those things during a trip in which we also learned about crowdfunding- and the idea just hit us- to start our own sneakers line that will adhere to the values of the generation, more informed, more conscious and more respectful towards animals and the environment”.

And so they did: the couple launched their crowdfunding campaign last year and fundraised 53.799€ (more than 290% of the crowdfunding goal) to make their dreams come true. The name, BeFlamboyant, represents the stylish, attractive and young spirit of the brand.

Beflamboyant: Eco-Conscious Vegan Sneakers

Gender Neutral

The first thing that attracted me to Beflamboyant sneakers (well, apart from them being mega stylish and vegan, of course), was the fact that they are unisex. Gender-neutral production is much more sustainable, as there’s no need to produce different lines of shoes for men and women. Now, you can share your sneakers with your loved one, if you are lucky enough to have the same shoe size (and if not, you can buy matching sneakers, which is also fun!)

Fairly Made

Fairly-made in Portugal, Beflamboyant sneakers are carefully made by outstanding craftspeople with many years of experience. It is hard to miss the luxurious craftsmanship of their shoes: the attention to every single detail made my mouth drop when I received my sneakers. On their website, Jorge and Tatai give you a tour around their factory and guide you through every step of the process, which I absolutely appreciate. Yay for transparency!

To make its lush sneakers, the brand uses quite a few materials:

• The upper material and lining are made of high-quality microfiber, specifically manufactured with zero CO2 emissions.
• The removable insoles are made of 100% recycled PU
• The cotton parts of the shoes are made with a mix of recycled, organic and virgin cotton.
• The sole is a 100% recyclable thermoplastic rubber.

Planting Trees

During the trip that inspired Jorge and Tati to start their brand, they found the Flamboyant tree, which became the brand’s name, logo, and mission. In order to create a positive impact on our planet, Beflamboyant joined hands with the wonderful NGO One Tree Planted: for every pair of sneakers sold, Beflamboyant donates 1 EURO to plant one tree and help re-forest areas destroyed by the wildfires in California. My sneakers helped plant 2 trees, and this makes me very happy.

Zero-Waste Packaging

Being conscious about the negative impact of packaging and plastic on our world, Jorge and Tati decided to make their packaging completely zero waste: when you buy your fancy pair of sneakers, it will arrive in a 100% recycled cardboard with a cute seed-paper card, that you can then plant and bring to life! Magical, isn’t it? Instead of plastic, the sneakers are stored in a natural jute bag, which you can then use daily!

In addition, Beflamboyant takes advantage of the large boxes that come from the factory and reuse them to send deliveries to retailers and use road transport with UPS company, which allows compensating their delivery’s carbon footprint.

Beflamboyant’s Sneakers: The Beauty In Simplicity

While having a closer look at the pieces I wear most in my wardrobe I realized I am a big fan of simple, basic items with a little twist- and that’s exactly what Beflamboyant offers. Their classic white vegan sneakers have an outstanding design thanks to the incorporation of the striking color accents. Out of the 7 different models, I chose two which I thought would fit my style the most: The leopard, with the nude front and slight touches of leopard that instantly sass every outfit, and the wine, a ravishing, deep burgundy that compliments my wardrobe’s quite-neutral color palette.

What I love about the design is the fact that it is simple yet super-luxurious and easy to wear: the clean lines and color accents will allow you to wear them for almost any occasion and with any outfit. Aside from that, and perhaps my favorite thing about these sneakers is the level of comfort: if you were wondering what walking on clouds feels like, it is exactly that- and I am not joking. these shoes incredibly comfortable and easily became my go-to companion for long days outside. It seems like they are only getting better with every wear (no wonder one of them is named wine;) ) and I am totally into that. Anywhere I go, I receive so many compliments about them, an unusual thing to say about a pair of white sneakers, but as I mentioned, these are just outstanding.
